Virginia Family Visit

Lora and I headed to Virginia for a few days with my parents and sister / brother in law. We drove up Friday which takes about 10 hours. We went out for dinner at Cracker Barrel which my mom likes. The next morning we took my parents to Three Lakes Park and Nature Center for a morning walk. We worked around rain throughout our visit. We visited throughout the day and my sister and her husband visited for dinner. 

Saturday was a shopping day for the ladies and I took my dad to Kroger to walk in the ac. Dinner at mom's house. 

Sunday we went back to St. Elizabeth's which is a Swahili Catholic Church. Very entertaining and spiritual filled church. After church was a shopping day for the ladies and I took my dad to Kroger to walk in the ac. Dinner was at my sister's house. 

Monday was cooking day. Made some sugar cookie's for my dad and some bannana bread. Sister and husband came over for dinner. We headed back home Tuesday.

Virginia Trip

 

Went to see Dad and Mom for a weekend. We celebrated my birthday with Lynelle and Jim.

East Coast Trip - Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia

Tuesday Oct 7th, after a campground hike, we headed South and West from New Jersey. Hwy 9 and 70 are nice driving. We crossed the Delaware Memorial Bridge and then followed 273 through Newark. We crossed through Maryland, back into Pennsylvania, and camped at Codorus SP. After dinner we hiked the 3 mile Mary Ann Furnace trail which we ended up hiking in the dark.

Wednesday was Gettysburg day. We visited the visitor center which now charges you for everything. From there we did the driving loop listening to the NP app. We stopped for lunch at O’Rorke’s Family Eatery which was awesome. We visited the candy store across the street and then visited the President Eisenhower House and Farm. After that we continued the auto tour. We had to go back to see the Tennessee monument because we didn’t see it the first time through.

Thursday we went further South. We went through Federick and down 15. We stopped at Point of Rocks for lunch and a walk. From there we headed to Fairfax for the night staying at Fairfax County Park Campground. This is a huge park with a small clean campground. We hiked the trail around the campground seeing deer, ducks, and squirrels.

Friday we drove on to Mechanicsville to see the parents and my sister. 

Saturday we went to the Richmond Folk Festival to listen to music and have dinner. Sunday was a down day. Monday was a trip to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and dinner at Lynelle's. Tuesday we headed south to Bristol VA and spent the night at Sugar Hollow Campground. Wednesday we headed home to spend a day before headed to the TTA Annual Meeting in West Tennessee.

East Coast Trip Summary:

Eight Weeks; Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Canada, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Tennessee.

Virginia Coast Trip

We started out with a trip to see my parents in Virginia where my daughter and grandchildren would also be. We planned a six day visit with an open ended trip afterwards. We ended up traveling 22 days going through Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and Washington DC. It was a great trip all the way around and we saw many a thing!

Day One:

We left home and drove to Bristol Virginia where we stayed at Sugar Hollow Park for the night. We had stayed here before. It's a beautiful campground at a good price right off Hwy 81. We got in early enough for a walkabout before dinner and one to follow.

Day Two:

We got up and headed Monticello which I had done as a child and Lora had never been. We toured the house with an impressive guide and then toured the grounds on our own. We caught the Jefferson talk which was very cool. This guy knew his history! We headed out and made it to Mechanicsville in time for dinner which was prepared by mom. We took dad and mom home to see how they decorated and then went back to Lynelle's. Melanie and family flew in with her usual hour late arrival and I picked them up at the airport at 12:30pm. A late night for us, but regular time for them.

Sugar Hollow Campground

This was the start of our trip to West Virginia.  We drove to Bristol Virginia and stayed at their City Park, Sugar Hollow Campground. It is a beautiful park up in the woods with a bit of space between campers. All electric sites and clean. Lot's of bike trails as well as walking trails. After we got set up we visited with the host who was very informative and talkative. We hiked the Wetlands Trail before dinner and saw baby ducks swimming the creek.The next morning we hiked the Rocky Top trail before heading North. We got to see deer.
