Lost Cove TTA

Scenic City Chapter led by Betsy explored Lost Cove in Sewannee. Via Point Disappointment (the view was disappointing with all the leaves on the trees blocking the view) and Potter Ridge Trail. It's a relatively new trail with cliffs and rock formations. Lost Creek was dry so it must be lost too.  Hiked out and back so climbing out it was hot! We added a loop on the Caldwell Rim Trail. Picked some blackberries and huckleberries. Yummy!

When we got back to the parking area, opened the car doors to a blast of hot air. Stopped at a market to get something cold to drink. Then on to the Natural Bridge.

It was nice to see some friends and make some new ones.

Sewanee Perimeter Trail - TN Hiking Group

I met up with the Tennessee Hiking Group at Sewanee for an out and back hike on the Perimeter Trail. There were 17 hikers and 2 four legged hikers. Bob was our hike leader for the day. The view from the parking log on Greens View Road was beautiful, looking over the farmland valley below. The trail is well maintained and marked well. Mostly level with a couple of climbs. Since you start downhill from this trailhead, know it was out and back, we would finish the day with a climb. There are a few overlooks that would be great in the winter time. We stopped for lunch at the forestry cabin where I found passion flower in bloom; and then hiked to Dotson Point. This was our turnaround spot. Ended up with 12 miles of hiking.

I didn’t see any wildlife other than butterflies and centipedes.  This is a great trail, hope to hike the remainder of the Perimeter Trail someday. I think the hiking group plans to hike it soon. Check out their website

Chilly Chili Hike

January 28
The last few days had started out at 50 degrees and got warmer thru the day. I was wondering how the Chilly part of the hike would turn out. Saturday dawned at a chilly 28 degrees and partly cloudy sky. I guess the Poteets have a lot of pull with the Man in charge of the weather. 32 hikers showed up at the trailhead for Bridal Veil Falls. I met some for the first time, and reconnected with a couple of ladies I had hiked with a while back. Hi Denise and Cathleen!

This is a really pretty trail on the grounds of the Sewanee Domain, University of the South. The trail was a little slick thanks to the heavy rain the day before. Bridal Veil Falls was beautiful, lots of water that tumbles down the bluff and then goes underground. We hiked back up the hill and around the bluff line looking into the beautiful valley below.

Back at the cars we headed to the Poteets lovely home for the Chili part of the hike. Lots of wonderful chili, cornbread, and lots of side dishes, and so many desserts..brownies, cake, breads, cookies, green fluff,.mmmmm sugar high. While we were eating Jim pointed out a hawk sitting on one of their birdfeeders, waiting for lunch I think.

Thanks to Marietta and Jim for the hike and the Southern hospitality. It sure was a beautiful day.
