Chickamauga Military Park TTA

Dave led 10 hikers on a 5 mile Ramble Trail starting at the Chickamauga Military Park Visitor Center. The hike started across the road and you're supposed to go under the overpass but the creek was deeper than we were willing to wade. We had a pleasant walk in the woods, with plenty of historical markers to remind us that right here, 160 years ago, many soldiers died fighting a war that determined the future of our one nation. After the hike, some of us toured the Visitor Center and watched a 26 minute film of the Battles of Chickamauga and Chattanooga. The NP Service has made a very realistic short film, that makes the battles feel more personal to the viewers. I highly recommend seeing it if you visit the Park.

Lunch was yummy at the Park Place Restaurant for those of us who stayed. Tuesday's special was meatloaf.

Len Foote Hike Inn - TTA

The Scenic City Chapter of TTA put together a two night stay at the Len Foote Hike Inn in Georgia. It's a five mile hike to the Inn starting at the Amicalola Falls State Park. We had 19 hikers staying there. On the second day we hiked up to the top of Springer Mountain on the AT approach trail.

We had great weather, except for sunrises, for most of the stay. It rained a little bit on the way down from the Inn on Thursday. The Inn was a wonderful experience. Clean, great food, and a great staff.

Graysville Segment CT

Today we started at the new Dogwood West/Gilbreath Creek CT Access trailhead off of Bluff View Road. They have a nice parking area with outhouse and the access trail starts through a Stone Door dropping down to the CT right at the new bridge they have over Gilbreath Creek. Lora wanted to hike the new section that they now have completed to HWY 30. It's about five miles from this new trailhead. So you can now through hike from Roaring Creek to Hwy 30. We also checked out the new campground at Dogwood East which is just down the street.
