Michigan Trip 2026

My Aunt had asked me to come up and help her do a clean out of her outbuildings and garage. Of course we were willing, but we were delayed a couple of weeks due to an illness in the family that we had to help with. We got packed up and headed out on 28th.

We drove up to Kiser Lake SP in Ohio where we had camped before. It's a nice campground on a small lake at a good price. We enjoyed the sunset over the lake. The following day we made it up to my Aunt's house. We got fried fish from the bar for dinner which was wonderful. We had another family member who had passed away and they were having the funeral memorial service on Saturday so we went to that. Lot's of family and friends from the West Branch area.

Sunday after church we started the clean out and setting up for a garage sale. We had a lot of good help from family members and neighbors getting the sale set up and we ran it all week until Saturday. It was a hugh success! We got to meet all sorts of people from around Elk Lake and the surrounding area. It was funny as we walked every evening we saw people that came to the sale and they all talked to us. It's a wonderful community. A couple of the neighbors took us out around the lake on pontoon boats. We even had a celebration at the bar on Friday night.

We got things wrapped up and headed South Monday morning. We camped at the Covert/South Haven KOA for two nights so we could visit our nephew's family and see the new baby. My brother and his wife came over too, so that was wonderful to hang out with them in South Haven. When we first got to the campground we drove over to Covert Park, which is a nice little campground, and on to the public access to Lake Michigan for a swim. We even got eaten by the Black Flies which was not planned. After dinner we hiked the nature trail behind the campground. It's an unmarked dirt roadbed which wonders throught the woods and there are many cutt offs from the main road. There is a shoe tree, or should I say trees, with all sorts of shoes hanging from them out there. No sign or information about it.

We headed South again on Wednesday. We stopped at the Grissom Air Museum which is really cool and they had a lot of aircraft to check out. From there we drove to Mohawk Campground which is just East of Indianapolis. The owner was extremely friendly and invited us to a campfire that evening. They had goats in a pen there and a lot of wildflowers and planted flowers. There were six of us around the campfire that night with lots of stories to be told.

Thursday we drove down to Charlestown just outside of Louisville and had lunch at the greenway park. From there we drove on to Cave City Kentucky and stayed at Singing Hills RV campground. Very pleasent host and clean campground.

Back home tomorrow
